Author Bio
Jonathan L. Bowen was born in Portland, OR, in 1982. He attended Oregon State University where he graduated summa cum laude with, appropriately, a B.S. in Philosophy. While at OSU, Bowen took every class on film studies and film history that he could. He even took a class on screenwriting during his last term. Since 2001, Bowen has run a film review site with more than six hundred reviews of movies from the 1890s through present and in countries around the world. His interest in film and Star Wars led him to write his first book, Anticipation: The Real Life Story of Star Wars: Episode I—The Phantom Menace, while in high school. He published the book in spring 2005 to great reviews and an Editor’s Choice award from iUniverse.
Bowen started collecting his research materials for a sequel long before the final prequel film came to theaters, but he formally began his research for Revenge: The Real Life Story of Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of the SIth in June 2006. Four weeks later he had completed his research and started the writing process, which lasted longer than he had planned and continued into December. The editing process then began, which was even more exhausting than the writing process, lasting more than ten drafts and taking until the end of March to reach a nearly-final draft working with the publisher. The book underwent several editorial reviews at the publishing house, where it eventually won both Editor’s Choice and Publisher’s Choice. Bowen made further changes just weeks before publication, fixing a few final mistakes or wording issues. The book became available for purchase in July 2007, more than a year after its formal start date.
Professionally, Bowen is a writer-director-producer in Los Angeles, California, where he co-owns a small production company named Shutzi Productions. In the future, he hopes to work on many music videos, short films, and a few feature films currently in development. Bowen enjoys working out and staying in shape; he is a black belt in both Tae-Kwon-Do and Hapkido. For fun, he loves playing poker, watching movies, and adding to his large Star Wars collection, which includes every full scale Master Replicas item released since the company opened its doors in 2002.
